Tuff Span 6.5 and
8.0 profile roof decks are designed to replace traditional metal, wood,
and concrete decks as a substrate for built-up and single ply roofing
membranes.
These decks, like all Tuff Span panels and decks, are made with continuous
straight aligned reinforcing glass. The Tuff Span reinforcement system
allows these FRP decks to perform as a permanent substrate without the
creep problems associated with other glass reinforcing systems.
The load/span tables shown on the previous page are based upon full scale
tests. The loads shown reflect actual deck performance under dead, live,
and uplift loads.
Load Definitions
- Dead load : material
load only
- Live load : service
loads, foot traffic, etc.
- Uplift load : uplift
wind pressure minus dead load.

Part 1 - General
Tuff Span products establish a minimum of quality required.
Part 2 - Products
Roof deck units shall be Tuff Span in one of the following profiles:
Tuff Span 6.5 Roof
Deck, Series 500
Tuff Span 8.0 Roof
Deck, Series 700.
2.01 Glass
fiber reinforcement shall be continuous and oriented in two (2) directions
(along the length and width of unit). Each unit shall be a minimum of
47% glass by weight.
2.02 Units shall be made from Vinyl Ester resins, and shall have
a flame spread rating of 25 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM
E-84.
2.03 Structural Parameters Roof deck units shall meet the specified
spans and positive and negative load capacities. Performance criteria
shall be determined by full-scale tests which represent combined stress
and elastic stability conditions. The following design criteria and Factors
of Safety (FOS) shall be analyzed and met:
Deflection (max.)
under dead loads = L/360, FOS = 5;
Deflection (max.)
under dead + temporary loads = L/240, FOS = 2.5;
Deflection (max)
under wind uplift loads (= wind uplift-dead loads) = L/180, FOS = 1.88.
Fastener pullover
minimums must account for combined stresses from the hole and from the
fastener itself.
Part 3 - Execution
3.01 Installation of Insulation Materials
3.02.01 Rigid insulation material may be attached to the FRP roof
deck units with mechanical fasteners or hot bituminous roofing adhesives
("hot mopped").
3.02.02 Mechanical fasteners must be "positive lock"
type - no screws are allowed. Contact Enduro for recommended fasteners
and fastening procedures.
3.02.03 Care must be taken when using hot roofing adhesives on
FRP roof deck units. Temperature of adhesives should not exceed the maximum
values set by the National Roofing Contractors Association (Hark 1989).
