The National Resources Defense Council has called per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) “forever chemicals” because they are “nearly indestructible.” They are toxic even in parts per quadrillion levels.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced its final National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NPDWR) for six PFAS chemicals on April 10, 2024. According to the NPDWR, “the rule will prevent PFAS exposure in drinking water for approximately 100 million people, prevent thousands of deaths, and reduce tens of thousands of serious PFAS-attributable illnesses.” The rule will require the monitoring of public water for these PFAS.

The California Water Board explains that four major sources allow PFAS to get into water: landfill leaching, fire training and response sites, wastewater treatment plants and industrial sites. Enduro Composites, a member of Creative Composites Group (CCG), is proud to report PFAS-free in their many industrial products. This means that all Enduro’s many industrial-use products will not contribute to the problem of PFAS pollution nor will the Enduro production facilities themselves.

Enduro Products Offer Durability without PFAS

Enduro’s composite water and wastewater products are often a more durable option than metal alternatives in corrosive municipal and industrial water and wastewater environments. Chemicals like industrial-grade hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite (bleach), ferric chloride and other chloride- or sulfate-based chemicals can have a highly corrosive effect on various metals but are essential to many industries like water and wastewater treatment, mining, pulp and paper, semiconductor and food/beverage water waste treatment processing. Additionally, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a common corrosive challenge for plant operations given it often transitions to sulfuric acid (H2SO4). Enduro’s fiberglass composites are made with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites, which are designed to resist various forms of degradation from these chemicals. Beyond their corrosion resistance, they are often lighter in weight and faster to install than conventional materials such as concrete, and they require much less frequent maintenance compared to various metal solutions.

No matter what part of your industrial facility an Enduro product may touch, you can trust it to deliver reliable, long-term performance without PFAS.

CCG’s parent company, Hill & Smith PLC, is specially dedicated to sustainability, pledging: “We recognize that to play a positive role in society, we need to act responsibly. Not just to our employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders but also to the environment and wider society.” This blog is part of Hill & Smith’s third annual Sustainability Week, April 22-26, 2024, which is part of that mission.
